Background

In the early 1900s, rich pastures made Normandy the cradle of French thoroughbreds. Many champion racehorses that went on to claim glory on racetracks were bred on this land. The region’s equestrian heritage was upheld not merely by aristocrats and trainers, but by successive generations of Garçon d’Écurie, stable hands.
Devoid of ornament, their work pants were built to endure constant abrasion. Roomy pants legs grant freedom for deep squats and horseback riding. Double‑layer reinforced knees shield against ground friction. Thigh pockets keep hoof rasps and twine at hand. A vertical bank of ankle buttons cinches the hem, fitting snugly into tall riding boots and eliminating the risk of fabric tangling with stirrups

Design Details

-Inspired by 1900s Normandy stable‑hand work pants, this piece features structural re‑engineering: traditional French workwear patch pockets swapped for flap cargo pockets; square plain knee patches re‑shaped into geometric diamond jacquard patches; original straight legs revised to a scimitar cut with more ankle buttons than the original. Asymmetric rear pockets enhance structural visual appeal.

-The original main fabric — Normandy Métisse (70% cotton, 30% linen) — has been replaced with rigid raw denim for enhanced wearability. The knee reinforcement, formerly moleskin, is updated to substantial Japanese kendo fabric for stronger visual impact with equivalent heft. In homage to the historic Bleu de Travail colour family, the fabrics are dyed with natural Japanese indigo.
