About 「NIOSHOKU-PLANT-DYEING / にいろしょくぶつせん」

A special traditional hand-dyeing technique in Japanese craftsmanship, which involves using two different plant-based dyes to color fabrics or garment, resulting in a dual-tone effect. As a unique variation of plant dyeing, it skillfully utilizes natural plant pigments and dyeing methods to create distinctive two-color patterns, characterized by its natural, eco-friendly, and artistic qualities.

PLANT-DYEING MATERIAL

「GOBAISI-DYE」

"Gobaisi-Dyeing" is  an ancient traditional Japanese dyeing technique. Its raw material, galla chinensis, is also a well - known ancient plant dye for dyeing black. This dyeing method offers several advantages such as natural and pure colors, strong antibacterial properties, and being healthy and safe. When dyeing, it usually results in a black color with a bluish - purple tint, which is very beautiful. Sometimes, it may even be regarded as dark purple or gray - blue

「SHIKON-DYE」
Japanese madder (Lithospermum erythrorhizon) is a perennial herbaceous plant, typically cultivated by dyehouse themselves. Dyehouse usually harvest the roots in advance and store them in burlap sacks. The dye for akanezome (Japanese madder dyeing) is extracted from these roots, with the entire process being largely handmade and extremely time-consuming. Interestingly, the older the madder roots, the more vibrant and effective the dyeing results become
